Newly Processed Photograph Collections

Processing has been completed on two photograph collections. The George Rothrock collection contains stereocards and cabinet cards from the 1870's - 1890's. The James McClintock collection includes 800 photos dating from the 1860's to the 1930's.

Manuscript Collections

Kearney Egerton Collection-MSS 96
Egerton was a columnist and cartoonist for the Arizona Republic. The collection consists of que paso? columns and original artwork for that publication.

Hal Empie Collection-MSS 35
Self-taught artist Hal Empie’s collection consists of oil paintings, family photographs, pencil sketches, color prints, and original cartoons.

Bil Keane Cartoon Collection-MSS 65
Best known for his cartoon “Family Circus,” the collection consists of original art for these cartoons dating from 1962-1989.

Bill Mauldin Collection-MSS 61
Arizona native Bill Mauldin’s collection consists of newsclippings from his series which ran in the Phoenix Gazette.

John Powers Collection-MSS 91
“Levity Lode” was a series of cartoons dealing with mining and occupational safety issues in the industry. This collection consists of over 200 broadsides which were first published in The Mining Journal and then later reprinted as broadsides to be distributed to mining companies.

The Library holds research collections on materials documenting American printed cartoons, comic strips, graphic novels, sports cartoons, and magazine cartoons.

Charles M. Schulz Museum and Research Center
The museum highlights the life and career of Schulz. Records include photographs, business and personal files, comic strips and drawings, and memorabilia.

National Cartoon Museum
Located in the Empire State Building in New York City, the museum will be re-opening in late 2006 and holds collections about caricatures, comic books, editorial cartoons, greeting cards, and comic strips.
